I can see why these things doubled as air-raid shelters during the Cold War. And, I think, during Siege of Moscow, back in 1941 before that.

I think my ears popped about 8 times during the ride down. I can’t imagine what happens if/when the steel belts underneath this monstrosity break down. It’d be like huffing up the fabled 99 thousand 9 hundred and ninety-nine steps to Nanda Parbat.

The inspirational Soviet posters have all been replaced with consumer ads. And, of course, ads for rather spicy massage&escort services.
