This is a view inside the ancient cathedral that sits atop the hill that they call "La Popa" overlooking Cartagena.  The Spanish designed their cathedrals not only as religious shrines, but as military refuges, atop strategic hills, and with thick, defensible walls.  The military and religious were irretreivably intertwined in the colonial era … and looking at the current wars in the Middle East, I’d have to opine that the more things change …
