Just got back from the huge immigration march that blocked off Wilshire Blvd.  I managed to take some pictures that turned out, although I was using my bunk digital point-n-shoot rather than the slick 20D. I did shoot a couple of rolls of film (it was a protest march – I had Tri-X – it felt like old times). <\/p>\n

These girls were just trying to get out of the crowd without getting trampled…<\/p>\n

\nThis guy was really enjoying all the attention.  Or maybe he was just used to having cameras stuck in his face by the time he reached Wilshire & La Brea.  I think the marchers were damn near outnumbered by people toting cameras. <\/p>\n

\nAnderson Cooper was there and was getting a little freaked out by the relentless sea of people yelling.  He looked a little bit like a comedian onstage in front of a crowd that’s not getting his jokes.  You know – like how Steven Colbert must’ve felt on Saturday.  He is much frailer than he looks on TV; the thickly-muscled day obreros standing next to me could’ve crumpled him into a ball. <\/p>\n

Still, one thing still holds true – the minute the red light comes on on the camera, people start yelling like assholes. There were the chants of "Si se puede" along with a couple of nitwits yodeling about injusticia and Cristo Salva and other assorted blather.  I have to hand it to Anderson. He kept his shit together.  Then again, after Katrina and the wretched stench, I don’t think anything could really have knocked him off his stride. <\/p>\n

I shot a couple of snippets of video as well.  The quality is pretty much ass, but you can get an idea of the scope of this demonstration. <\/p>\n

I have driven through this intersection a thousand thousand times, and standing there in the midst of this crowd, I felt like I was on another planet.<\/p>\n
