This is what it looks like from the 7th floor of the Marriott, looking out the window into the gathering storm. The snow was so intense and heavy, the sky under the snowstorm was quite literally black.

The locals here are muttering darkly that the weather is unusually strange this year – that it changes in minutes from hot to cold and back to hot again, and that winds come out of nowhere (or seem to teleport from the arctic circle to here)…

I’m used to mercurial weather (an old Midwestern saying: “Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes. It’ll change.”) – but these radical swings in temperature and winds are extreme, even by Wisconsin standards.
