A departure from my usual opaque comments on media & general web goofiness:

I ran across a blog touting the tastiness of various stouts and ales, and it touched off a memory ofHibernia
some of the great beers that I once downed, that are sadly, no longer with us (*hat over heart*).

Hibernia – brewed in the old Walter’s Beer plant in Eau Claire, WI, back in the 80s. Competed with Anchor Steam at the competitions, damn near beat it. A great amber ale.  In college, the owner of the brewery used to show up at our parties and after a few shots of Electric Lemonade, he’d get on the horn and order a few kegs.  Damn, that stuff was good.

Eureka – brewed in Wolfgang Puck’s short-lived experiment in West LA with a restaurant/brewery.  Another tasty amber ale, brewed right next to Lucasfilm’s sound engineering campus, where George spent most of the early 90s licking his wounds from Howard the Duck. Eureka had a lot of character – and apparently enough bite to make you dream up something like Jar-Jar Binks.
