The sprawl here makes L.A. look like it’s almost under control. The one difference I see is that rather than miles of suburbia, there are miles and miles of 3-5 story crackerbox apartment buildings. The population density here is epic.

In the dim background is one of the volcanoes that stirs from time to time and generates the deadly earthquakes. The last big one was more than 20 years ago, when the population here was south of 20 mill.

I think that a Big One (i.e. 7.0 or higher) here would induce suffering and a collapse unlike anything in recorded history. Well,other than the ice ages doing the beat-down on the dinosaurs.
